Global engineering firm WorleyParsons (WOR) has pledged a zero tolerance policy on corrupt activities amid allegations of improper behaviour in the international dealings of fellow engineering giant Leighton Holdings (LEI), according to The Australian Financial Review.

WorleyParsons chief executive Andrew Wood told investors at a shareholder meeting in Sydney that ethical behaviour is “paramount” to the company's success and is an issue taken very seriously.

“Recent revelations of alleged corrupt practices by Australian companies operating overseas we know is a concern to shareholders of a global company such as ours,” Mr Wood said, according to the AFR.

“I can assure you that at WorleyParsons we have zero tolerance of corrupt practices.”

WorleyParsons banned facilitation payments last year in the wake of an Australian Federal Police investigation into suspicious payments made by Leighton officials to secure oil contracts in Iraq.

The anti-corruption pledge came as WorleyParsons announced it has teamed-up with accounting firm Deloitte Australia to work together on major projects in the oil and gas, mining and infrastructure sectors.
