The Australian sharemarket is slightly lower at noon after steep falls on Wall Street as well as local figures showing activity in the construction sector continues to contract.
At 12.05pm (AEST), the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 10.7 points, or 0.2% weaker, at 5,412.1 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index shed 13.7 points, or 0.25%, at 5,414.9 points.
Australian Industry Group figures showed construction activity kept contracting in March, but at a slower rate than in February.
Late last week, official United States figures showed the country's economy added 192,000 jobs in March, suggesting the labour market continues its slow but steady improvement.
