After giving the company one last chance to show its true colours, we are finally willing to admit to being wrong on this one. Even the biggest single sporting event in the world could not get those turnstiles whirling any faster than they have been. The company may have pulled in 8.5% more revenue in the September 2000 quarter compared to a year ago, but visitor numbers were actually 4.7% lower. Admittedly, this period only covered the first week of the Olympics, but it is still not a good sign at all. If such a tourist orientated business can't push just a few more visitors through its turnstiles during the Olympics what hope do they have? Even worse, since our last review the stock is down 12.1%. We are now inclined to think that there are plenty of other stocks with more assured growth than Sydney Aquarium. The company does pay good dividends, but there are other plays that trump it in this department as well (take Alintagas, on page 13). BETTER VALUE ELSEWHERE.
