Odell bets his reputation

Jamie Odell is gambling his reputation on a ‘transformational’ acquisition in the US. Given the liberal use of debt to finance it, the stakes are high.

In 1979 engineering student Jon Yarbrough returned to Tennesse Tech following an internship with NASA. With nowhere to put his beloved foosball table, he did a deal with a game room operator to split the revenue. Reflecting on this experience, Yarbrough said ‘I was amazed at how fast the quarters racked up’. NASA’s loss was the gambling industry’s gain, as Yarbrough purchased more video games until launching bingo games manufacturer VGT (Video Gaming Technologies) in 1991.
