Ansell has acquired Brazil-based Hercules for US$77m. Hercules is a small local producer of personal protective equipment (PPE) and, with sales of around US$30m, the price looks high. Still, the acquisition has some strategic logic. Ansell is currently expanding its geographic reach and broadening its product mix by buying small existing players, such as the September purchase of French-based Comasec.
