Woolworths (WOW) says it will create almost 7,000 new jobs across its Australian business division this financial year, primarily through the opening of new stores.

The types of jobs that have been created are many and varied, from customer service staff to senior retail management roles, the retailer said.

Woolworths, Australia’s second largest employer, said it was "proud" to be creating employment acrossthe country. It employs more than 180,000 people, or 1.5% of the Australian workforce.

The data shows full-time employment rose strongly, with the number of full-time jobs lifting by 80,500 to 8.05 million and the number of part-time jobs falling by 33,300 to 3.5m.
