Whitehaven Coal (WHC) has appointed Kevin Ball as its chief financial officer from December 16, replacing Austen Perrin.

In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, the miner said Mr Perrin has decided to leave the company but will stay until early 2014 to ensure an orderly handover.

Mr Ball has previously held senior positions at Chandler Macleod Group, Springvale Coal, Delhi Petroleum and the Milestone Group.

Whitehaven chief executive officer Paul Flynn said Mr Ball's range of experience and network in the resources and financial sectors will complement the company's executive team.
