Walmart vs Amazon

Walmart isn't going anywhere, but in terms of who can call themselves America's best retailer, there could be a challenger.

While Walmart is the battle-hardened king of the traditional US retail landscape, Amazon is the unquestionable lord and ruler of America's online retail world. This infographic prepared by OnlineMBA.com contains estimates that show while the Seattle-based online retailer's revenue of $34 billion is still dwarfed by Walmart's $408 billion, Amazon could overtake Walmart in revenue terms by 2024.

It seems like a large gap to bridge, but perhaps the most important difference between the two retailers that could stand in Amazon's favour is the simplest component of retail – customer service. Amazon ranks first in customer service against Walmart at spot 10 and with the online retailer beating the old warhorse on price, consumers have quite some incentive to swap.

FYI: Amazon's best selling item is the Kindle (makes sense), whereas for Walmart it's bananas – guess it had to be something.
