Wall Street inches to new highs

Modest rises still yield new closing records for Dow and S&P 500 ahead of key jobs data.

he Dow and S&P 500 have edged to new highs ahead the official US jobs data for June, with the outlook buoyed by strong numbers from the ADP private sector report

At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 19.30 points (0.11%) to 16,975.37, while the broad-based S&P 500 added 1.23 (0.06%) at 1,974.55.

Both notched records for the second day in a row.
