Village Roadshow in positive mood

THEME park and cinema operator Village Roadshow says its cinema business is performing well, while kind weather is expected to drive an improvement in theme parks. The company operates cinemas in Australia, Singapore, the US and Britain, and theme parks on the Gold Coast, including Movie World and Sea World.

Chairman Robert Kirby told the company's annual meeting in Melbourne yesterday the Christmas line-up of films was strong and would continued into next year. "Business, in a word, is great," he said of the cinema trade.

Bad weather and floods affected theme parks in the past financial year, but business was strong this financial year to date, Mr Kirby said.

Village Roadshow was looking to increase the capital or equity base of Village Roadshow Entertainment Group, which is involved in film and music production.
