TomKat have, in a word, arrived
TOMKAT are in Melbourne. If you find yourself asking who or what are TomKat, it simply means your reading diet is probably trash-mag-free and you missed that Hollywood film star Tom Cruise and his actor wife Katie Holmes are famous enough to be known by a conjoined moniker.
The couple arrived in Melbourne as all one-word star couples should - by private jet at Essendon Airport. The small gathering of fans awaiting them at the airport was outnumbered by media and paparazzi, but all were given the cold shoulder as the couple disembarked inside a hangar. The couple were accompanied by their daughter Suri, who at age three has already generated more magazine coverage than many accomplished Hollywood actors. They were then whisked off to Crown Towers, where they will reportedly call the 39th floor home for the next couple of months. Mr Cruise is tagging along with the missus for this trip while she films the horror flick Don't Be Afraid of the Dark at a Docklands studio. It is believed their billionaire buddy James Packer offered them his private penthouse at Crown after they couldn't find any other lodgings that met their security needs. Cruise, the world's most famous exponent of Scientology, introduced Packer to the controversial religion seven years ago. Despite their Crown abode, it is unlikely the couple will be spotted having a flutter on the tables as Scientology denounces gambling.Cruise is best known for the Mission Impossible movies, Top Gun and for being the former spouse of Nicole "Our Nic" Kidman.Holmes is best known for marrying Cruise and inspiring him to jump on a couch declaring his love for her in an embarrassing incident on the Oprah Winfrey show four years ago.Cruise is also known for suing the media and being an actor not to mess with. Perhaps that is why the Rove show curiously censored a joke from comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's character Bruno during its show on Sunday.Bruno, in character, said of his own real-life alter-ego: "I hear his wife gets less sex than Katie Holmes", but the reference was beeped out of the interview.Melburnians should brace themselves to hear much more of the days of TomKat's lives for weeks to come.
