Thiess has won a $1.8 billion contract from QGC to construct gas compression facilities and associated works for its QCLNG project in the Surat Basin.

In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, the Leighton Holdings (LEI) subsidiary said the contract significantly expands its role in the coal seam gas producer's project.

Thiess will now construct all 18 field compressor stations and four central processing plants, with works to be completed by November 2014.

The new contract replaces the $325 million agreement from February 2012 for a smaller number of works.
