Capital expenditure, retail and construction figures lead Australian data releases in the week ahead, while all eyes will be on US GDP.

The week ahead brings a glut of important economic indicators, headlined by the release of March quarter capital expenditure data.

In other local news, retail trade data and construction work figures are due.

Overseas, highly anticipated gross domestic product data for the first quarter is due in the United States.

In corporate news, OZ Minerals and Ivanhoe Australia will hold annual general meetings.

Elsewhere, South Australia will release its state budget in the week ahead, while the European Union will hold its annual economic conference.

RBA

On Monday, Reserve Bank of Australia governor Glenn Stevens will address the Australian Payments Clearing Association's 20th anniversary symposium in Sydney.

Investors will watch for any reflection on the bank's current views on interest rates, ahead of its next policy meeting at the beginning of June.

Most analysts are expecting more interest rate cuts from the central bank before the end of the year.

Local news

The week in local news kicks off on Tuesday, with the release of the Home Industry Association's new home sales figures for April.

On Wednesday, retail trade data for April is due from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Economists are tipping the data to show a 0.3 per cent rise in trade for the month.

March construction work data is also set for release, and is expected to show a 1 per cent gain.

Thursday bring highly anticipated capital expenditure data for the March quarter from the ABS. Analysts are tipping the figures to show growth of 3 per cent in the quarter, thanks mainly to the mining industry.

April building approvals figures are also on tap, along with private sector credit data for the month.

A 2 per cent increase in approvals is expected, while credit is tipped to have inched up 0.3 per cent.

Elsewhere, the Australian Industry Group and PricewaterhouseCoopers will release their performance of manufacturing index.

Corporate

A quiet week in company news sees just a sprinkling of company shareholder meetings.

OZ Minerals will hold its annual general meeting on Monday.

Tuesday sees Ivanhoe Australia hold its AGM.

On Friday, Metal Storm will meet shareholders for its AGM.

Offshore

Overseas, US markets are closed on Monday for the Memorial Day holiday.

In the United Kingdom, nationwide housing prices data for April is due.

On Tuesday, US consumer confidence figures are due, along with the Dallas Federal Reserve Manufacturing survey.

The Standard & Poor's Case-Shiller home price index is also on tap.

April consumer credit data is released in the UK, along with M4 money supply figures for the month.

Mortgage approvals for April and May consumer confidence data is also on tap.

Wednesday brings pending home sales index data in the US.

On Thursday, highly anticipated gross domestic product data for the first quarter is due in the US. Analysts are expecting the figures to show a rise of 1.8 per cent.

Jobless claims data is also due, along with the Chicago purchasing managers index.

The ADP employment report will also be released, alongside the weekly Energy Information Administration petroleum status report.

Analysts expect the ADP data to show an increase of 138,000 jobs.

Friday sees the US employment situation report released, which includes jobless data and average earnings figures. Experts expect the figures to show a payroll lift of 150,000.

Personal income and outlays data and construction spending figures are also on tap.

Elsewhere, the ISM manufacturing index is due. Economists expect to see a slight easing in the index to 54.1.

In the UK, purchasing manager index data for May will be released.

Wrapping up

On Tuesday, Santos chairman Peter Coates will speak at a Trans-Tasman Business Circle event in Sydney.

Wednesday sees Westpac Banking Corporation chief information officer Clive Whincup appear as the guest speaker at a Committee of the Economic Development of Australian function in Sydney.

Australian Securities and Investment Commission deputy chairman Belinda Gibson will address the Chartered Secretaries Australia annual corporate update.

The three day World Economic Forum on East Asia will begin in Thailand.

The European Union will release its Convergence Report on non-euro countries' euro eligibility, and give economic policy recommendations to its member states.

In the US, Boston Federal Reserve president Eric Rosengren will speak at the Worcester Regional Research Centre.

Thursday brings the release of the South Australian state budget for 2012-13.

Elsewhere, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group's Australian chief executive officer Phillip Chronican will address a TTBC function in Sydney.

Overseas, Eurogroup president Herman Van Rompuy will speak in London.

Cleveland Federal Reserve president Sandra Pianalto will speak on the manufacturing industry in the US.

Meanwhile, Brussels will host its annual economic forum in Belgium.

Elsewhere, the European Union will hold its annual economic conference. Speakers include European Commission president Jos Manuel Barroso, vice-president Oli Rehn and Italy Premier Mario Monti.

On Friday, ASIC chairman Greg Medcraft will give the keynote address at the Stockbrokers Association of Australia's annual conference in Melbourne.

In the US, an economic development summit will be held in Oregon.
