Silicon Valley has been home to the US electronics sector since the early twentieth century and while the term itself was coined in reference to the large number of silicon chip manufacturers, it's now not only synonymous with the behemoths of the global tech landscape but stands for cutting edge innovation.

As Kathy Drasky points out in her piece this morning, the Valley isn't the only place bringing brains and cash together in a quest to make new technology. There are many contenders, all with the capacity to mobilise their tech-savvy denizens.

The elusive search for the “next Silicon Valley” could lead us to Canberra, Chattanooga or another sleepy corner of the world but I doubt that they will be able to offer the sort of perks that keeps employees at Google, Facebook et al happy.

This infographic from Resume Bear, courtesy of Bit Rebels, gives you a picture of the work environments at these internet giants and it's anything but traditional.
