Seven West Media (SWM) and Prime Media Group (PRT) have signed a long-term affiliation agreement.

In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, the groups said the new six-year agreement extends to June 30, 2019 and builds on a partnership of almost three decades.

Prime Media chief executive officer Ian Audsley said he was confident Seven West would continue to deliver quality programming.

"Prime’s broadcast partnership with Seven drives strong audiences in regional and rural Australia and provides tremendous opportunity for Prime’s advertisers," Mr Audsley said.

Seven West chief executive Tim Worner said he looked forward to building on their leadership in broadcast television.

"Broadcast television and the creation and development of Australian content will play a key role in the future of the company," Mr Worner said.

"Television will continue to be the primary form of mass communication and at the heart of our future development."
