BRIGHT '80s pop culture, classic nautical and modern organic - these are the key trends to take inspiration from for this summer's fashion, according to Miranda Kerr.

The David Jones fashion ambassador was outside the CBD store yesterday afternoon providing tips on all the chic and colour to look forward to in spring-summer fashion.

Dressed in dark blue Tsubi jeans, a lime green Liso Ho top and black Willow jacket, the Australian model hosted a fashion workshop in Bourke Street, as models took to the runway showcasing the latest trends.

Kerr's own picks for the coming season were: a long free-flowing maxidress - "very effortless chic", as well as a great pair of pants - "this season I'm loving the harem pants".

Wardrobe items are set to get tighter, shorter and brighter as '80s pop culture returns in graphic prints, denim and strong colours like hot fuchsia.

The feel of a '50s and '60s pool party was also in the air, with models wearing candystriped dresses and bright, cheeky skirts from Saba, Willow and French Connection.

Softer, feminine, tailored organic pieces were also in the mix, with ruffled dresses and tapered trousers by Willow, Country Road and Witchery, topped off with nude-coloured shoes.

The Madison Avenue theme is also big, with new takes on classic trench coats by Sportscraft and wide-leg pants set to add some sophistication and elegance.

There were plenty of fashion tips for the men, too, with a classic take on the nautical look in the form of striped shirts, white pants and caps.

The contemporary college trend was also a hit with must-have preppy jackets, denim pants and cardigans.
