RICH PICKINGS: The $14 billion rollercoaster

After a horror week on the sharemarket, Australia's richest 30 investors breathed a sigh of relief after Friday's big rally. But the value of their combined portfolios has still fallen $14 billion in 2008.

The whooshing sound you heard on Friday evening was actually the sound of a lot of wealthy investors breathing a huge sigh of relief.

After Thursday’s horror sharemarket dive, Australia’s top 30 sharemarket investors – a list that includes James Packer, Andrew Forrest, Frank Lowy and Gerry Harvey – had lost a staggering $2 billion in four awful days.
