Less than a week after Crown Ltd received provisional approval from the New South Wales (NSW) to break Echo Entertainment Group Ltd's Sydney casino monopoly, acting Queensland premier Jeff Seeney has called the two companies to meet with state representatives over a potential second casino in Brisbane, according to The Australian Financial Review.

The call for a meeting came one day after Crown chairman James Packer called Echo's Queensland casino operations a “disgrace”.

Fresh off the Sydney battle, it appears Brisbane will be the next battleground for the rival casino operators.

“I have written to both the major casino operators inviting them to a formal meeting because I think the time for arbitrary comment is over,” he said, according to the AFR.

“I think it's time we get together for some formal negotiations.”

Echo has a perpetual casino licence in Brisbane, with a lease on its facility until 2070. Both Echo and Crown have suggested an interest in building a second casino in Brisbane.
