Origin Energy Ltd has started production at its offshore Geographe gas field in the Bass Strait, 18 months after it started developing it as part of its Otway gas project.

Under a joint venture, Origin started development of Geographe in October 2011, which with the Thylacine gas field forms part of the group's Otway gas project

Origin owns a 67% stake in the Otway joint venture with Benaris International Pty Ltd (27.77%), while Toyota Tsusho Gas E&P Otway Limited (5%) holds the remainder.

Origin’s chief executive of upstream oil and gas Paul Zealand said production from Geographe would support Origin’s other energy investments in the region, including its Victorian retail business and gas-fired power station Mortlake (see Cliona O'Dowd's Collected Wisdom).
