National Australia Bank Ltd has appointed Craig Drummond as group executive of finance and strategy.

Mr Drummond was previously chief executive and country head of Bank of America Merrill Lynch Australia.

In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, the bank said he will commence in the role towards the end of 2013.

Mr Drummond had earlier held the roles of chief executive officer and chief operating officer at Goldman Sachs JBWere.

He has experience in capital markets, merger negotiations, detailed post-merger integration and business strategy.

Mr Drummond replaces Mark Joiner, NAB's former executive director who left the group in March.

NAB chief executive officer Cameron Clyne said Mr Drummond has over 27 years of experience.

“I know that Craig’s experience in the financial services sector, along with his leadership skills will be a strong addition to our leadership team," Mr Clyne said.
