Low-cost super: It’s not that hard

There is plenty of low-hanging fruit if governments really want to cut the cost of Australia’s baseline super.

Summary: A recent report from the Grattan Institute claims its recommendations for the super system would deliver more than $1.5 billion in savings and add around $40,000 to the average super balance in retirement. The institute wants a reverse auction to run Australia’s default super funds, a cut in the number of excess accounts, and further platform consolidation.
