Letters: GoConnect promises, America's last chance

Readers discuss the US election result, the prospective listings of First Mongolian and Priority One, and praise Robert Gottliebsen's writing.

GoConnect promises

I hope that David Haselhurst is proactively watching events with GCN and its two promises regarding First Mongolian and Priority One listing on the ASX. How real are the shares we were allotted in these two companies I wonder? What evidence do we have of ownership?  At the moment it feels like a great big hoax to promote GoConnect itself.

Last chance gone

I agree with the ‘right wing perspective’ of Obama’s victory. The US has gone from a country of ‘enterprise’ to country with a populace with their hands out, and I see a similar situation for Australia with Julia Gillard also being re-elected by those same people. Where is hard work and enterprise going? I think it was the USA’s last chance – it is gone! China will rule the world, and not in a nice way that we all think!

Woolworths proposal?

I have been hoping to have an article provide some analysis of the pending proposal of Woolworths to spin off the new entity Shopping Centres Australasia. Noting that Woolworths is listed in the model portfolios held by John Abernathy, I am disappointed with the present lack of reference to the situation.

In praise of Gottliebsen

Robert Gottliebsen's November 9 article was excellent: understandable, relevant, and encouraging.

I think Eureka must avoid too many complicated, technical articles, of little help to retail investors. It seems that investment writers often have diverging views, which is understandable, as retail investors have to make up their own minds regarding investment. But at least their contributions must be easily understood, or give up writing.

Thank you, Mr Gottliebsen: you seem to understand where many people are at.

Understanding the BOQ swap?

BOQ is converting their PEPS (BOQPC) to CPS (BOQPD). If you hold BOQPC you have the option of retaining them (I don't know how they will fare on the market) or converting them 1:1 to BOQPD or sell them on the market but they dropped nearly 6% today so people don't want to keep them or don't like the look of BOQPD as a replacement. Will you be doing a story on these and outlining the benefits or disadvantages of the swap from BOQPC to BOQPD - the prospectus is heavy going.
