Leighton Holdings (LEI) subsidiary Leighton Contractors has reached an agreement with Main Roads WA on the price, scope and construction methodology for the $1 billion Gateway WA Perth airport and freight access project.

In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, Leighton said the contract with WA Main Roads has a cost target of $899 million, of which Leighton has a 68 per cent share.

Leighton Holdings chief executive officer Hamish Tyrwhitt said the award of more than $600 million highlighted the group's strong presence in the civil infrastructure market.

"It also underscores the resilience of our diverse portfolio," he said.

"The project itself is an important initiative for Western Australia and an indication of the pipeline of opportunities we expect to emerge over the next few years, as this nation moves to close its infrastructure deficit and improve productivity."
