As the SOPA debate continues to bubble away in the US, it's perhaps worthwhile to remember that measures to censor the internet are a worldwide phenomenon and the internet might not be as free as we would like to think it is.

Under the guise of anti piracy, national security and protecting social values every country has different content to censor and different ways of going about the task. From advanced internet monitoring and censoring technology to pushing through onerous legislation, the tools utilised are many, but as Neerav Bhatt points out in his piece today, there's always a way around the barriers.
