Macmahon Holdings (MAH) has appointed Jim Walker to its board as a non-executive director, effective immediately.

In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, Macmahon said Mr Walker's more than 40 years in the resources sector would add a wealth of knowledge and experience to the depth and breadth of mining expertise among directors.

Most recently, Mr Walker has been managing director and chief executive officer of WesTrac, where he was instrumental in company’s rapid development in industrial and mining services in Australia and China.

Prior to joining WesTrac Group, Mr Walker held roles with other Caterpillar dealers within Australia including Hastings Deering, Morgan Equipment and the Bougainville dealership in Papua New Guinea.

He is also a former Director of Seven Group Holdings Ltd, National Hire Group Limited and Coates Group Holdings Pty Ltd, and was formerly National President of the Australian Institute of Management.

He is currently a member of the Chamber of Minerals and Energy’s Executive Council.

Macmahon chairman Ken Scott-Mackenzie said Mr Walker’s appointment was a key part of the company’s board renewal process.

“Jim is well known for his leadership within the industry and I am delighted to be welcoming someone of Jim’s calibre and experience to the board," he said.

“As we’ve previously stated, the board is committed to an orderly renewal process and Jim’s appointment follows the planned retirement of Dr David Smith who has made a tremendous contribution to the Macmahon board and will retire prior to the upcoming annual general meeting."
