InvestSMART's diversified ETF portfolios have delivered solid results over the past 12 months, returning between 6.7% and 9.5% to the end of April 2025. Over five years the diversified portfolios have returned between 3.7% and 10.7% on average. Keep in mind, past performance is not an indication of future performance.

The chart below illustrates how InvestSMART's diversified portfolios compare to funds in the same risk category over five years. As you can see, our High Growth portfolio has been the best performer in that timeframe, returning 10.7% a year over five years. It outperformed similar options by an average of 1.7% over that period.

InvestSMART's single-asset portfolios returned between 3.9% (cash securities) and 11.8% (international equities) in the 12 months to the end of April 2025, and between 1.8%p.a. and 13.1%p.a. over five years.

April wrap-up

Share markets had a bumpy ride in April but ended the month in much better shape than they started.

In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 bounced back from a rocky start to finish the month up 3.6%, making up for March's losses. After a tough March, where all sectors except utilities ended in the red, April saw most sectors regain ground. This time, energy was the only sector to fall, while communications led the way with a 6.5% gain.

The turbulence early in the month was largely triggered by US President Trump's 'Liberation Day' announcement on trade tariffs. However, things calmed down after he followed up with a 90-day pause on tariffs.

In the US, the S&P 500 was down more than 11% at one point, but like Australia, it recovered most of those losses to finish just 0.7% lower.

May has started relatively steady, with markets watching closely for any fresh developments.
