How apt is your app?
So far there have been 10 billion app downloads from Apple's store since it was launched in 2008 – what we don't know is how many app deletes there have been. The initial success of an app can be somewhat reliant on the notoriety of the organistion, but whether that app goes on to build a better relationship with a customer or potential customer through regular use is a different story. This graph from Forrester Research shows how the games, music and social networking apps get a workout, but health, business and travel apps tend to accumulate up dust.
As Thomas Husson explains, businesses contemplating building an app rather than a mobile website because 'they're all the buzz' are missing the point. Both suit different purposes and if you pick the wrong one, the result will be the same – no gain.
