The billionaire founder of Ramsay Health Care (RHC), Paul Ramsay, died late last night after suffering a heart attack.

Mr Ramsay, 78, had been holidaying on his boat in Spain when he suffered the heart attack. He was flown back from Spain yesterday on a private jet to be able to die in his beloved Australia, a close source told The Australian.

He died shortly before midnight at his home in Bowral, NSW.

It is understood he did not regain consciousness following the heart attack.

A noted philanthropist, Mr Ramsay AO was the chairman of the listed Ramsay Health Care, Australia’s largest private hospital company.

He was also involved with Prime Media.

Mr Ramsay had extensive real estate interests in Bowral and on the exclusive Belongil peninsula near Byron Bay where he spent considerable time.
