Google is slowly but surely getting closer to making its $US12.5 billion buy of Motorola Mobility a reality, now that US and European regulators have given th acquisition the nod of approval.

Google said in August last year that it would buy the phone-maker for its 17,000 patents and 7,500 patent applications, so the question is what is the search engine giant going to do with it?

My guess is that Google is going to use Motorola to make its very own iPad killer or a Google phone that will epitomise the ultimate Android OS.

Either way $US12.5 billion is a lot of money and it's certainly a gamble from Google. Here's an infographic from State of Search that spells out what's at stake and what Google may have up its sleeve.
