AUSSIE rules legend Kevin Sheedy is a big softie.

But it's not a premiership flag or a win from behind that's made him misty eyed. Rather, it's the faces of sick children.

"Adults can understand [hospital] better but the little ones ... it's very difficult for them and you have to give credit to the hospital staff for their great work," he said after a visit to the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Sheedy, head coach of the new Greater Western Sydney side, visits the gym and cycles to keep fit. He encouraged families to register for the Rebel Sport Run4Fun, presented by The Sun-Herald, a 10-kilometre run on November 7, which finishes inside Sydney's Olympic Stadium at Homebush. The run will raise funds for children's hospitals including Westmead, Randwick and Newcastle.
