Fairytale turn for teen skater

Alder, 18, of Lake Macquarie, was last week asked to try out for the company, which is in Sydney until Sunday with its Disney On Ice Princess Wishes show.

"I've been looking forward to this for my whole life," Alder said.

"It's a huge deal."

While the skater has yet to learn if she will land the Disney On Ice role,, she is happy to be chasing a dream she has had since starting skating at the age of nine. Her friend Brad Santer has already gone on to show there can be a happily ever after.

Santer, 27, of Castle Hill the only Australian skater in the cast of 39 performing at Acer Arena, Sydney Olympic Park was offered a place with Disney On Ice aftertagging along to an audition with friends in 2006.

"They offered me a job on the spot," he recalled.

He was given his first lead role as Troy in the ice version of High School Musical before being offered the Aladdin role in the latest production.

The former competitive skater has travelled in Europe, the US, Canada, Egypt and Russia with the company.

"It's been absolutely amazing," he said.

"As a competitive skater, you go to all these places but you don't really see much other than the inside of an ice rink or the inside of a hotel room."

Santer said the skating community had become even closer following the death of 14-year-old ice-skating champion Morgan Innes in a horror boat crash on Sydney Harbour on March 28, 2007, which killed three others.
