E3 fuels console comeback hopes

With the latest Electronic Entertainment Expo done and dusted gamers and developers are excited about the next generation of the console wars. That bodes well for a depressed industry fighting to keep the rise of mobile games at bay.

Few first-time participants at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles last week would have realised that the $US66 billion videogames industry is in steep decline.

Microsoft, Sony Corporation, Electronic Arts and other industry giants whipped up the crowd of gamers and developers at the event into a frenzy, with displays of high-powered new consoles and previews of popular genre games.
