Speculation over who will replace Paul Zahra as chief executive officer of David Jones Ltd is already swelling, just a day after he announced his intention to resign, The Australian Financial Review reports.

According to the newspaper, analysts suggest former head of fashion and accessories at David Jones Colette Garnsey, former David Jones executive Patrick Robinson, as well as current David Jones employees Donna Player (general manager of merchandise) and Tony Karp (head of retail services) are in the mix for the highly coveted job.

Korn/Ferry International have been hired to find an appropriate candidate.

The AFR reports former OrotonGroup chief Sally Macdonald is also a potential candidate, after quitting the high-end accessories retailer last month.
