Coca-Cola Amatil (CCL) has entered into a deal with Molson Coors to distribute a selection of the its brands in Australia, The Australian Financial Review reports.

According to the newspaper, Coca-Cola has secured the rights to Carling, Coors Light, Caffrey’s and craft beer Blue Moon in the group's latest tilt at the $11 billion beer market.

Coca-Cola Amatil delivers its half-year earnings results today, with chief executive Terry Davis likely to field questions on the Molson Coors deal.

"If they got a big brand like Corona that already has a market share of about 6% or 7%, you can understand it [the strategy],” an anonymous analyst told the AFR.

"But they are not going to do that. Instead, this really seems a bit like rats and mice."
