Aust stocks set to open higher

Local market expected to begin week stronger despite muted offshore leads.

The Australian sharemarket looks set to open higher despite a muted showing on European markets and Wall Street being closed for Independence Day on Friday.

At 6.45am (AEST), the September share price index futures contract was up 13 points at 5,495.

In local economic news on Monday, the Australian Bureau of Statistics releases overseas arrivals and departures data for May, the ANZ job advertisements series for June is due out as is the Australian Industry Group/Housing Industry Association performance of construction index.

No major equities news is expected.

In Australia, the market on Friday closed higher for a third straight day of gains, with miners leading the way.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 33.8 points, or 0.62%, at 5,525.

The broader All Ordinaries index gained 32.3 points, or 0.59%, to 5,511.8.
