Aust stocks open stronger

Local market pushes higher as recovery in tech stocks boost Wall Street.

The Australian sharemarket opened more than 0.5% higher, after a slight recovery in technology stocks pushed Wall Street higher.

At the 10.15am (AEST) official market open, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index added 35.5 points, or 0.66%, to 5,446.1 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index lifted 35 points, or 0.65%, to 5,444.2 points.

In economic news, Westpac and the Melbourne Institute release their latest survey of consumer sentiment.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics publishes housing finance data for February and international merchandise imports data for March.

In company news, Energy Resources of Australia holds its annual general meeting in Darwin.

The market on Tuesday closed relatively flat.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index dropped 3.1 points, or 0.06%, to 5,410.6.

The broader All Ordinaries index lost 6.9 points, or 0.13%, to 5,409.2.
