Aust stocks edge higher at open

Local market pushes upward in early trade in absence of Wall Street leads.

The Australian stock market opened slightly higher following a cautiously stronger performance on European markets with Wall Street closed for the Presidents' Day public holiday.

At the 1015 AEDT official market open, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index added 0.23%, at 5,407.1 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index increased 0.23% to 5,395.3 points.

In local economic news on Tuesday, the Reserve Bank of Australia releases the minutes of its February board meeting and the Australian Bureau of Statistics releases January's international merchandise imports data.

In Australia, the market on Monday finished higher, buoyed by local earnings results and offshore gains.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 26.6 points, or 0.50%, at 5,382.9 points.

The broader All Ordinaries index was up 27.9 points, or 0.52%, at 5,394.8 points.
