The Australian dollar is slightly lower after commodity prices fell and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.43 per cent.

At 0630 AEST, the local unit was trading at 93.91 US cents, down from 94.13 cents on Tuesday.

Market sentiment was not helped in overnight trade by a report that showed a fall in American consumer confidence in September and the looming deadline to raise the US government's debt ceiling.
