Android's sweet tooth

The Ice Cream Sandwich is the latest incarnation of the Android OS that remarkably started life only three years ago. In that time it has managed to find its feet despite a host of challenges, not the least the digerati view that it's a distant second best to anything Apple has on offer.

Well, the road from Cupcake to Ice Cream Sandwich has been captured here by Xcube Labs and there is a lot to like about the new system.

For one thing Google has finally managed to marry the phone and tablet strands of Android into a single version and that's going to go a long way to stimulate the development of more apps for Android tablets.

According to Ovum analyst Nick Dillon, one of the issues that has so far limited sales of Android tablets is the relatively small number of available apps but that's now about to change.
