Federal politics

ONCE I thought that Kevin Rudd and Malcolm Turnbull wanted effective policies to reduce carbon emissions. Now totally disillusioned, I support a Greens balance of power in the next Senate.

Wilma Western, Leongatha

WHEN Wilson Tuckey eventually quits politics, will he get the following reference: "He always set himself the lowest possible standards and consistently failed to achieve them."

Ron Huttner, Armadale

WILSON Tuckey is right.

Peter Wynd, Bamawm

IF AUSTRALIA is soooo wealthy and is one of the only countries to escape the effects of the recent economic debacle, why isn't it leading the way, using this wealth to confront global warming?

Lance Lessels, Williamstown

LET Ken Henry run the country. He has more realistic ideas of what's ahead than our head-in-the-sand Prime Minister.

Bob Greaves, Mount Eliza

State politics

HUMPTY Brumby sat in his hall, Humpty Brumby is due for a fall Most Victorian women and men don't want HB together again Labor has lost it, Libs never had it, I don't want to sound mean But for God's sake try Green.

Marion Harper, Reservoir

ABLE to jump into puddles at a single bound, appear hard-hatted but spotless on building sites, hold up helicopters from the inside and appear on every possible TV grab is that Super Brumby, or is it really Bob the Builder trying to line up a new job after the 2010 election?

Tony Davidson, Glen Waverley

IT'S no wonder Ted Baillieu's MPs are rebelling. A quick look at his website shows he has no policies to create jobs, provide more water or give Victoria's kids a better education.

Thomas Ayers, Moonee Ponds

DON'T worry about the reliability of myki, Tony O'Brien (Letters, 23/10). Myki II (10 years, $1 billion) will have an automated weight, gait and face recognition system, with a hydraulic arm to fling the passenger out after exit swiping.

Kishor Dabke, Mount Waverley

What's more

WAS the Ferrero chocolate (24/10) an attempt to compensate for the loss of the crossword, code word and Sudoku?

Peter Turner, Moe

THE chocolates were a bit rich perhaps some jelly babies next week?

Alex Shabs, Elwood

HOW delightful: the retirement of Elida Brereton, legendary principal of Camberwell High ("Principal who reached the heights goes out on a high", 20/10), got more column inches in The Age than Peter Costello's formal resignation.

Colin Jevons, Glen Iris
