A new tourism: climate catastrophe

An hour's drive from Lima is the shrinking Pastoruri glacier, where communities are trying to rebrand the once glorious formation into an 'attraction' for those curious to witness climate change in action.


In its heyday, the Pastoruri glacier in central Peru, drew daily throngs of tourists packed into dozens of double-decker buses 5000m high into the Andes to ski, build snowmen and scale its dizzying peaks.
