FEDERAL BUDGET 2012: Slaying the $1bn green building tax break

The cancellation of the tax break for upgrading the efficiency of existing commercial buildings is a significant blow for the energy efficiency sector. Focus needs to shift to a national energy efficiency credits scheme.

The government announced in the Budget that it would not be proceeding with a tax break for energy efficiency upgrades of commercial buildings – a loss of $405.2m over forward estimates and $1 billion over the life of the program.
