Fairfax papers clean up PANPA awards

THE Sydney Morning Herald has been named newspaper of the year by the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers' Association for the second year in a row.

The Sun-Herald was awarded Sunday newspaper of the year, completing the double for Fairfax Media, owner of The Age.

The best news website was adelaidenow.com.au; theage. com.au was highly commended.

The Australian's iPad application was named best digital innovation.

In other awards, The Age's Epicure section won the event section for Epicure Live, staff photographer Joe Armao was highly commended for his portrait of artist John Olsen, and The Age was highly commended in display advertising for a Mountain Goat beer campaign. The Age Print Centre won the Environment, Health & Safety award.
