Downer EDI (EDI) has secured a contract with Bechtel for two electrical and instrumentation packages for the downstream portion of the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project in Western Australia.

In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, Downer said the contract was valued at $400 million and will commence on site in late 2014.

Downer said the contract would create up to 600 jobs in Australia across a variety of construction trades, mainly electrical and instrumentation.

There will also be a number of new project administration and functional support roles located in Downer’s Perth office.
