Vocus to merge with M2

Another day, another deal in the telco sector. Gaurav Sodhi explains why this one makes sense.

The proposed merger between Vocus and M2 Communications, if it proceeds, will signal the end of a long consolidation in the telecommunications industry before the NBN is fully rolled out.

As recently as five years ago, the telecoms market was dominated by Telstra, with Optus trailing and the rest of the sector falling well behind the two leaders. Growth at the small end of the industry and consolidation has changed all that.
