Q. How much does Telstra get and when does it get it? The media refers to the $11bn Telstra will receive from the NBN deal. That’s a little misleading. The figure is Telstra’s estimated valuation (in post-tax, net present value (NPV) terms) of the cashflow benefits. But this money won’t turn up as one fat cheque, quickly distributed to salivating shareholders. The inflows will occur over a total period of 30 years. As for the exact timing, the company has only indicated its cashflows will increase over the next three to five years but it hasn’t offered much detail...
