The threats are mounting but Woolworths is well placed to cope. Nathan Bell explains why it remains one of Australia’s best businesses.

Woolworths' shareholders are at little risk of losing their shirts, but after analysing the risks posed by the rush to online shopping and the growth of discount chains in Supermarket superwars – Pt 1 (Buy – $36.95), we may have scared the pants off a few of them. If you’ve been feeling a little naked this reporting season, worry not. Here, you’ll get the chance to pull your pants back on.

Whilst not underestimating how quickly industries can change, for Woolworths at least the threats aren’t as great as they first appear. Let’s take the issue of online shopping first.
