Perpetual slapped by market

Recent market movements will affect a sharemarket-related business, and Perpetual is no exception.

Recent experience with Perpetual demonstrates why we’ve stopped putting price guides on certain commodity-dependent businesses, such as Origin Energy and Santos. For Perpetual it’s the overall level of the sharemarket rather than commodity prices, but the effect is the same: any price guide can only hold for a particular level in the underlying index or commodity.

That’s not such a problem when the underlying index or commodity moves around relatively sedately, but recent movements in commodities and the sharemarket have been anything but sedate.
