Origin Energy: Interim result 2014

As it awaits the completion of its LNG venture, Origin's core business is weakening.

Low electricity demand and intense competition have again dented Origin Energy’s half-year result. Revenue fell 3% to $7.2bn although underlying profits rose 5% to $381m, driven by higher output and prices from the oil and gas business and better results from Origin’s stake in Contact Energy. From underlying earnings per share of 34.6 cents, up 4%, an unfranked 25 cent interim dividend was declared (ex date 3 Mar).
