Hansen’s Pay TV payday

Netflix may be nipping at the Pay TV industry's heels, but it's still a booming business for Hansen.

In developed countries, Pay TV providers concern themselves with cord-cutters and cord-stealers. But in developing markets, the issue is the large population of cord-less: 95% of households in sub-Saharan Africa don’t have Pay TV. Indeed, 7 out of 10 people in the region don’t have access to electricity.  

Why then, in 2013, did billing software maker Hansen Technologies buy a tiny Pay TV customer care and billing operation – rebranded ICC – from Naspers, a South Africa-based media conglomerate?
